Summary:
This is primarily an office position that facilitates all aspects of the food and beverages service onboard the Alaska Railroad. This role helps supervise up to 90 associates at a time.
Applicant must be willing to work a flexible schedule that can change during the summer, including nights, a combination of days and nights, or early mornings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following, other duties may be assigned:

Human Resource Functions:
Ability to initiate and record corrective action, counseling, and other personnel functions
Ensures all service expectations are met on a day-to-day basis
Rides trains frequently to ensure all expectations are being delivered
Facilitates train departures in the morning, or greets daily train arrivals in the evening when needed
Works with the management team in mobilizing and de-mobilizing projects annually

Financial Resource Functions:
Has a working knowledge of basic personal computing operations, including but not limited to Microsoft Office
Ensures accuracy of onboard reporting
Has working knowledge of how a POS System works and troubleshooting
Actively works to mitigate food waste and assist in labor controls where possible

Food and Beverage Functions:
Proficient with ordering and inventory processes.

Safety Resource Functions:
Drives safety culture in all aspects of performance and position
Works with the management team to ensure all daily safety reporting is accomplished
Conducts incident investigation to determine root cause and effective corrective action
Ensures correct and proper usage of logs by all onboard staff perform regular audits to ensure safe operation and compliance with all local, national, and corporate guidelines
Works with onboard staff to ensure correct use and stock of Personal Protective Equipment onboard
Conduct onboard audits and create action plans to maintain service standards

Supervisory Responsibilities:
From May to September, ability, and willingness to work early morning shifts or overnight shifts.
Training, coaching, disciplinary action where needed, and problem resolution
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
Assists with indirect supervision of janitorial staff when needed
Provides coverages when needed for other camp locations
Ability to travel approximately 25% of work time, up to 50% during the summer months

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Certified Food Protection Manager, Alaska Mandatory Alcohol Server Training (TAP, TAMS, or Alaska Responsible Serving of Alcohol) Certifications, valid Driver's License, 5-year historical positive driving record, and will be required to take DOT physical.

Education and/or Experience
Five years of food service experience in a restaurant or banquet setting, with two years of supervisory experience.

Other Qualifications:
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports/orders. Ability to speak effectively before customers.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, and calculate figures and amounts such as discounts.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Physical Demands: Work long hours on moving railcar. This position is primarily onboard with some office time. Ability to work nights and weekends, and a flexible overall schedule. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; balance while train in motion; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stoop. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, heat, motion, cleaning chemicals.
