Onboard Food Service Supervisor

Summary: Supervises and coordinates activities of all ESS onboard, food-service staff

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, Other duties may be assigned.
Human Resource Functions
Ensures all service expectations are met on a day to day basis
Ensures all uniform and grooming standards are met
Ensures scheduling is adhered to, manages daily changes to ensure coverage
Stays overnight in Fairbanks and ensures that all staff maintain ESS standards while there
Initiates corrective and disciplinary action when necessary
Keeps records and maintain paperwork of all issues onboard
Knows and can communicate all onboard position descriptions and duties
Zero tolerance for any theft, use of alcohol, or drugs onboard
Maintains ESS standard for diversity, and maintains an onboard culture of equality for all Associates
Financial Resource Functions
Provides ongoing training and support for all daily financial functions
Enforces policies onboard regarding employee meals and consumption onboard
Has working knowledge of POS System and can troubleshoot basic issues
Food and Beverage Functions
Facilitates successful operations of all aspects within food & beverage service onboard
Manages crew of up to 15 associates daily.
Reports back to management with cash receipts.
Works with group tour guides to maximize food service flow
Safety Resource Functions
Works with Project manager to ensure all daily safety reporting is accomplished
Works with Project Manager in Accident investigation
Ensures adherence of all onboard staff to ESS safety programs and guidelines
Assists at depots and stops with the safe loading and unloading of passengers, assisting physically challenged and special groups by opening doors, operating chair lift, etc. 
Immediately notifies management of any incidents onboard, no exceptions
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises up to 15 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the ESS/AKRR policies and all applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. The OBC will also be expected to fully assist the crew during busy mealtimes.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
ServSafe Manager Certification, Alaska TAPSs Card, CPR & First Aid Certifications
 
Education and/or Experience
Five years food service experience in a restaurant or banquet setting, with two-year supervisory experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports/orders. Ability to speak effectively before customers.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, and calculate figures and amounts such as discounts.
Other Qualifications
Must be 21 or older
Fluent in English
Work a minimum of 14 hours on a moving railcar, multiple days in a row.
Ability to work a schedule that can shift and change daily.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. 
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, heat, motion, cleaning chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud.
